Hey there, sproutsouts. Today is Tuesday, February 20th, 20203. Today we are talking about the martyrs and perhaps one of the most well-known martyrs in the history of our church, St. Cecilia. Before we talk about her incredible story,

please join me in praying St. Peter's chains. In the name of the Father and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit, amen. O God, who caused St. Peter the Apostle to depart, loosed from his chains and unhurt.

Loose, we beg you, the chains of our sins, and graciously keep all evils far from us.

Bless us this lent and give us the faith of the martyrs we ask this in the mighty name of jesus

christ amen in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen so with saint

cecilia if you have not heard of her she is a saint from the early church. She died in the year

230. Now before we talk about her story, I want to talk about how important the martyrs were to

the early church and how their stories were shared. Imagine with me that you live in Rome, that it's the year

230, the year that St. Cecilia died, that you're a Christian, but you know that if anyone

ever finds out that you are Christian, you'll be killed, perhaps even tortured for people's entertainment before you die.

And yet, you, like all the people that you know who are Christians, who attend mass in the catacombs beneath the city,

you know that this is the truth, that you cannot deny that Jesus is indeed God.

So imagine being that person. Now, you probably will have various different feelings.

Sometimes when you're at Holy Mass and surrounded by people in the catacombs, you might really

feel brave.

Like, yes, I'm willing to die for this.

I know that this is the truth.

But then other times, maybe you have a friend who's arrested and who you know has been killed,
