Today is the 18th day in the second month in the year of our Lord

2024.

My name is Sir Rowland, Peterlot, and you're listening to Sundays with Sir Rowland

on Catholic Sprouts, where every Sunday during Lent, we will discuss the Sunday

readings through the lens of dragon sling. Oneent, we will discuss the Sunday readings through the lens of

dragons slain. One of the cool things about the Sunday readings at Mass is how the Old Testament

reading, the Psalm, the second reading, and the gospel usually fit together with a common theme,

and I always try to pull out that common theme for the day. The theme that stuck out to me for

today's readings is the idea that God

saves. As we enter into the season of Lent, I think it's important for us to remember that we

need a savior. Hopefully you had a chance to go to Mass last Wednesday to receive ashes and hear

words such as, You are dust, and to dust you shall return. It's a call to that foundational

virtue of humility to help us

slay the red dragon of pride. We all need a savior. And Lent will culminate with the celebration of

our Savior on Easter Sunday. Throughout all of human history, God has been reminding his people

of how much they need a Savior and calling his people to trust him to save them.

In the first reading today, we heard the story of the covenant that God made with Noah.

God saved Noah's family from the floodwaters of death by teaching him to build an ark.
