Catholic Sprouts where every Friday we discuss the art of Scrabble playing. Ah ha. You didn't expect me to say that, did you? You got so used to my

opening lines that you thought you knew exactly what I would say, but I surprised you. Today's

episode is about encountering the unexpected for learning to deal with the unexpected as part of

life and becoming a dragon slayer.

Greetings young Squire Sprouts. Today is the 18th day in the 11th month in the year of our Lord

2023. My name is Sir Roland Paterlot and you're listening to Saturdays with Sir Roland

on Catholic Sprouts where every Saturday we discuss the art of dragon slain.

Today is the feast day of a saint who was a missionary in the United States of America, St. Rose Philippine Duchain.

She was born in the year of our Lord 1769 in France, but at her baptism, she was named after St. Paul, the most famous missionary,

and at St. Rose of Lima, the first saint of the new continent. Perhaps that is why she felt an

unexpected call and had a vision during a night of adoration, where she would be sent to America to

carry the blessed sacrament to all the land. Years later, her vision was realized, and she was sent to respond to the

bishop of the Louisiana Territory who needed a congregation to educate the Indian and French

children of his diocese. It was a difficult and an uncomfortable pioneer work with extreme cold

and hard work and lack of funds, but she spent many years in America and founded many schools and

educated the children of the new world. All of us, Dragon Sayers, are called to be missionaries in

some way. We may not get sent to a new world, but we must be open to unexpected missions and
