Greetings young Squires, Spouts. Today is the 11th day and the 11th month in the year of our Lord, 2023. My name is Sir Roland Paterallot, and you're listening to Saturdays with

Sir Roland on Catholic Sprouts, where every Saturday we discuss the art of dragon slain.

Today is the feast day of St. Martin of Tours.

St. Martin lived in the 4th century, and there's a famous story that says when Martin was still a catacumen,

he met a shivering beggar in the streets of Amiens, France. Martin cut his cape and two and gave

half of it to the freezing man. That night in a dream, St. Martin saw Jesus wearing the cape, and Jesus said to him,

Martin is still only a catacumen, but has covered me with this garment. That ignited his faith,

as it would you and me, too. And soon after, he was baptized. Now Martin was a soldier in the Roman

army, but it soon made him uneasy that he was contradicting his Christian faith, so he said to his Caesar,

I fought for you up to this point, now let me fight for God, I am a soldier of Christ.

The Emperor Julian was enraged under the influence of the Blue Dragon of Wrath and accused

Martin of being a coward. Martin responded by saying,

If you think I do this out of cowardice, I shall stand unarmed tomorrow before our lines,

and the name of our Lord Jesus and protected only by the sign of the cross without shield or

helmet, I shall penetrate the enemy's ranks and not be afraid. Well, the emperor ordered that he

do it. But the next day, the enemy handed themselves over and surrendered for peace.

Martin was then discharged from the army since there was no war to fight,

and he became a very holy man, founding a monastery and performing miraculous healings,

even raising a man from the dead.
