Summary

Join us as we discuss the 5th Commandment, You shall not kill, and our calling to not only protect the lives of others but offer mercy and love instead.

  • Monday: On the feast of the guardian angels, we recall that each human as a special dignity, created in God's own image, and we are simply stewards of our lives.

  • Tuesday: Explore the miracle of your own life, remembering how God breathed life into the first person and how our blood is sacred.

  • Wednesday: On the feast of St. Francis, recall that even unrighteous anger is a sin. We are called instead to reject human wisdom and be fools like Francis, pursuing peace.

  • Thursday: On the feast of St. Faustina, we are reminded that we not only need to get go of anger, we need to be like God and offer mercy, not hatred.

  • Friday: On the feast of St. Bruno, we are reminded that we are called to be the defenders of the weakest and smallest, working for just laws that recognize the dignity of all.

Hey there, sprouts. Today is Wednesday, October 4th, 2023. Today is also the feast day of another great saint, Saint Faustina. Now, St. Faustina lived in Poland about a years ago. So if you think about how old our church is, 2,000 years, she only lived 100 years ago, so not that long ago. She was in Poland. From a young age, she wanted to be a nun, but her parents would not let her. Instead, they sent her to school,

but after only three years of school, they removed her from school because they needed her to work

and help support the family. So she became a domestic servant or a maid. And she worked like that

1:08.5

for many years. In fact, she almost forgot about Jesus at one point.

And she was at a dance.

And while she was there, she had a vision.

1:18.1

It was a vision of Jesus, beaten and wounded.

1:21.9

And he said to her, how long will you make me wait?

1:27.4

She knew instantly that she needed to do whatever she could to

1:31.2

enter religious life. So she moved to Warsaw. She tried to enter several different religious

communities. All of them rejected her because she was so poor and so poorly educated. Eventually,

1:43.3

she was accepted by an order that helped women, young women who needed help.

1:49.8

And really, on the outside, she lived the rest of her life as an incredibly unremarkable sister.

1:57.1

She worked in the kitchen, in the hospital.

2:00.1

But all of this time, she was having remarkable visions of Jesus Christ.

2:05.4

She shared these visions with her spiritual director who told her to write them down.

2:11.5

However, remember, Faustina only had three years of school, so she really didn't know how to write. And particularly,

2:18.8

she didn't know how to spell. So she wrote everything down phonetically. Now, that means that

2:24.8

she just sounded things out and tried to guess at spelling. So she wrote them down. And so I just
