Sir Roland on Catholic Sprouts, where every Saturday we discuss the art of dragon slain.

Today is the feast of St. Bonaventure, a doctor of the church.

St. Bonaventure was given a remarkable gift of grace and entered the order of St. Francis at a very young age.

One legend of his childhood says that he fell gravely ill at the age of four and his mother sent for St. Francis himself to come pray over her son.

When Francis prayed over the boy, he was

immediately healed, and Francis proclaimed, oh, blessed things to come, which is where his name

Bonaventure came from. St. Bonaventure was also good friends with St. Thomas Aquinas, who once asked him

which library he obtained his vast knowledge, and St. Bonavichard told him that it was from the

crucifix, for it was his love of God that gave him his wisdom.

He was known as the seraphic doctor because of the ardent love that marked his writings.

Last week, we started a series on the Five Steps to Winning the Battle Against a Dragon, based on my Squire John's book,

Ordinary Lives, Extraordinary Mission, Five Steps to Winning the War Within.

Step one was to know that you're in a battle against dragons. We discussed that you have a need

to recognize what you struggle with and examine your conscience regularly. You need to know yourself

and your weaknesses so that you can turn them into strengths. Step two to winning the battle against

a dragon is to know your enemy. You must

study the dragons you'll be facing if you want to be successful in dragon slaying. Just like in sports,
