I work in the worship office for the Diocese of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and edit a prayer publication

called the Otteramus Bulletin. What I do in these things is to help people to pray, especially

to help them to pray the Mass. And especially, I try to help my own kids to pray the Mass.

And praying the Mass is our topic for the week. Today we're going to talk about

the beginning of the Liturgy of the Eucharist. So there are two main parts of the Mass. The first part is

where we hear the readings, and that's called the Liturgy of the Word. And in yesterday's episode,

we listened to how we might hear the words of the gospel in such a way that we can have a heart-to-heart talk with Jesus himself. The second main

part of the Mass is called the Liturgy of the Eucharist. And the Eucharist means Thanksgiving.

And it's a prayer in which we give thanks to God for our creation and the goodness of all things, and for especially the gift of his son Jesus, who, after

our sins, helps to restore us to the Father. And the liturgy the Eucharist is for everyone. So you may or may not have made your

first Holy Communion yet. And not everyone in the church will go to communion. But everybody in the
