Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Monday, May 8th, 2020. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are going to be talking about the corporal and the spiritual works of mercy. But before we get there, if you will join me in praying the

Memorare, which we are learning and hopefully memorizing this month in the B.S. St. Kids Club,

in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to

thy protection implored thy help or sought thy intercession was left on aided. Inspired by this

confidence I fly unto thee, O virgins, the virgins, my mother. To thee I come before thee I stand,

sinful and sorrowful. O mother of the word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy,

hear and answer me, amen. So like I said, we are talking about the corporal and the spiritual works of mercy.

Now, we know as Catholics that just saying that we believe in Jesus Christ is not enough.

We need to be Christians in our lives, each and every day in all of our relationships, choosing to serve and

love each person that we encounter. Now, before we talk specifically about the spiritual and

corporal works of mercy, we need to go back to Jesus' own words from the gospel.

Now, it's not just like a nice or a good thing to do to serve other people.

It is a requirement to be a follower of Jesus and to enter heaven.

So to see exactly how this plays out, let's look to the gospel of Matthew, specifically

chapter 25. Now in this chapter, Jesus tells us a story, but it's more than a parable. It's an

explanation of what we will experience after we die,

when at the end of time Jesus will come and judge the nations.

So here is what Jesus says.

He says,

When the son of man comes in glory and all the angels with him,
