You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. Holy Thursday, Jesus celebrates the Last Supper with his apostles.

A reading from the Holy Gospel, according to Luke.

When the hour had come, he reclined at the table with his apostles with him.

And when he had taken some bread and given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them saying,

This is my body, which is given up for you.

Do this in remembrance of me.

And in the same way, he took the cup after they had eaten,

saying, this cup, which is poured out for you, is a new covenant in my blood. The gospel of the Lord. Look at the image of the Lord.

Look at the image of the Last Supper. Imagine that you were there that night as Jesus celebrated the Passover with his 12 apostles in the upper room.

Outside it is dark. Most of the streets are are silent everyone is inside celebrating their own

Passover meals you know the Passover well you know the taste of the bitter herbs the texture

of the unleavened bread the words of the prayers and the flickering of the candles. It's so familiar. And yet,

there's something very different about this Passover meal. Jesus sits in the middle of you

and you notice his serious piercing eyes as he takes up the piece of bread and says,

This is my body, which is given up for you.

Your heart burns within you as he speaks.

You know that what he says is true.

You look at that bread held between his fingers,

and you know that this is the miraculous gift.

His body has been offered for you.

You know that Jesus is making the ultimate sacrifice so that all sins, your sins, will be forgiven.

Next, you watch carefully as Jesus breaks the bread and passes some to you.
