This week we are talking about the Mass as we kick off our series on really diving into

the parts of the Mass.

We've already talked about why we go to Mass, simply because

Jesus asks us to, tells us to, and we are obedient, where we get the term Mass from, that this

is communal, perfect prayer. And today we are going to talk about why this is such an important

prayer for us, the laity. But before we get there, if you would join me in reciting

the Anama Christi, in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.

Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ save me. Blood of Christ denebriate me. Water from the

side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. Good

Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds, conceal me. Do not permit me to be parted from you. From the

evil foe, protect me. At the hour of my death, call me, and bid me come to you to praise you with all your

saints forever and ever amen so let's talk about why we the laity need to go to mass why it is so

important that we do so first of all what is the laity? Well, if you are a baptized

person and you are not a priest or a religious sister or a monk, if you haven't taken religious

vows, then you are a member of the laity. So congratulations. I'm a lay person. Chances are, if you're listening to this, you are a member of the lady. So congratulations. I'm a lay person. Chances are, if you're

listening to this, you are a lay person and your parents are lay people and your grandparents

and your neighbors and everyone you see sitting in the pews at church. We are lay people.

Now, for a long time, there was a large period of time in the

Catholic Church where the lay people went to Mass and through a lot of miseducation, they

kind of thought it was their job to just be a spectator, to just kind of be there like the
