Today is Monday, February 6th, 2020.

Today is also the feast day of St. Paul Miki and 24 other Japanese martyrs.

But before we tell their heroic story, if you would join me in praying the Anima Christi, which we are memorizing this month. In the name of the Father and the Son and

the Holy Spirit, amen. Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ

inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me.

Passion of Christ, strengthen me. Good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds, conceal me. Do not

permit me to be parted from you. From the evil foe protect me at the hour of my death, call me, and bid me come to you to praise

you with all your saints forever and ever.

Amen.

So this week, we are actually going to be spending the whole week talking about this beautiful prayer

the anama christi anima christi is latin for soul of christ which are the first words of this prayer

this is just a very ancient beautiful prayer that catholics have been saying for close to a thousand

years it is also a super beautiful way to pray after

you receive Holy Communion. So that really is my hope that you can commit it to memory and that

this can be the prayer you say after receiving. But before we dive into the first few lines of this,

we are first going to talk about the saints that we are celebrating today. So we are talking about St. Paul Miki or Father Miki,

who was a Japanese priest. He was a Jesuit. But before we talk about him, let's talk about how the

faith arrived in Japan. The Japanese martyrs that we talk about him, let's talk about how the faith arrived in Japan.

The Japanese martyrs that we are celebrating today died at the very end of the 1500s.

Less than 100 years before this, the Christian faith first arrived in Japan.
