| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:39.3 | Hey there, sprouts today. Today is Friday, February 3rd, 2023. Today is also the Feast Day of Saint Blaze. We'll be talking about him soon, but first, join me in praying the Annamachristi. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, |
| 0:50.0 | Amen. Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. Good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds, |
| 0:58.7 | conceal me. Do not permit me to be parted from you. From the evil foe, protect me at the hour of my |
| 1:06.3 | death, call me, and bid me come to you to praise you with all your saints forever and ever. Amen. |
| 1:15.5 | So we've had a fun week talking about saints, talking about St. Joseph, St. John Bosco, St. Brigitte of Ireland, |
| 1:22.6 | and St. Catherine de Ritchie. Now, all of these saints are powerful intercessors, but I hope as always, |
| 1:29.2 | when we talk about saints, that you really are impressed with how God calls each person in such |
| 1:36.5 | a unique and specific way. God, he really is aware of not only our personalities, but of all that our lives entail, the dynamics of our |
| 1:48.8 | family, what's happening in our world or the time period that we live in, all of those things |
| 1:55.7 | play into how we are called to be saints as well. And the same is true with St. Blaze. |
| 2:03.7 | Now, St. Blaze lived in the 300th. |
| 2:07.0 | So he lived in the era of the church where it was still illegal in the Roman Empire to practice the faith. |
| 2:15.0 | Yet St. Blaze was a bishop. |
| 2:23.3 | He was a bishop in modern day Armenia, so Eastern Europe. |
| 2:30.4 | We don't know a ton about his early life, but we do know stories about the persecution before his life ended and about his martyrdom. So St. Blaze was a bishop. And what oftentimes |
| 2:36.8 | happened is that when waves of persecution broke out, the bishops would be encouraged to leave |
| 2:43.1 | the city and to hide. Because imagine if all of the priests and all of the bishops were killed, |
| 2:53.6 | then there would be no leadership in the church. |
| 2:58.1 | There would be no one left to ordain new priests and for the church to continue. |
| 3:04.6 | So St. Blaze left. He went and was hiding in a cave while the persecutions were raging, |
| 3:10.1 | and he was there praying very hard for his church and for his flock, |
