Hey there, Sprouse. Today is Monday, November 7th, 2022. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we will be talking about animals all week long. We're talking about this because

our guide for the month is St. Martin

DePorus, who had a special love of four animals. But before we get to that, let's remember

that it's November and we are praying specifically for the souls in purgatory that need our

prayers. So let's pray together. In the name of the Father and the Son and the

Holy Spirit, amen. In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters. In this life,

you embrace them with your tender love. Deliver them now from every evil and bid them eternal rest.

The old order has passed away, welcome them into paradise

where there will be no more sorrow, no weeping or pain, but fullness of peace and joy with

your son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen. So let's talk about animals,

but the best place to start to talk about animals

is with our patron of the month,

St. Martin de Pores.

So St. Martin de Pores was born in the 1500s in Lima, Peru.

His mother was a freed African slave and his father was a wealthy

Spanish landowner. However, shortly after Martin was born, his father abandoned the family and

Martin grew up in terrible poverty. Also, at this time in Lima, Peru, there was terrible racism. Because he was

mixed race, he did not have very many opportunities. As a result, his mother encouraged him to

study to be a barber. Now, at the time, a barber didn't just cut hair. They also performed medical surgeries and

practices. And so Martin became a healer. Now, all along, he was very devoted to Jesus. He was a very
