Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Tuesday, December 18th, 2018.

This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are continuing our journey through the Jesse Tree.

We've talked about what happened in the Garden of Eden.

We've talked about Abraham, Isaac, even Moses.

And this week we started with Ruth, who was the

grandmother of King David. Well, today, we are going to talk about David. Now, David is a very

important character in the Bible and in the Jesse tree. And here's why. So for years, for years and

generations, the Israelites were freed from Egypt and they lived in the promised land. However,

they begged God for a king. All of the nations around them had a king, and they felt like life would be better with a

king. For a long time, God said no. He gave them judges to help govern them, but they still

wanted a king. God was saying no to them because of what usually happens when you have a king.

A king becomes too powerful, a king becomes corrupt,

and oftentimes a king begins to think that they are God. Finally, God gave him to their request.

He made the man Saul, the first king of the Israelite nation.

But Saul was not a very good king.

And so God sent a prophet to go look for another king.

He went to the house of Jesse.

And as we know, this is the Jesse tree.

And it was foretold that a member from the house of Jesse would become,

you know, eventually one of his distant descendants would be the savior of the world.

So this prophet is looking through the sons of Jesse and he had a lot of sons and many of them
