Singer Crystal Lewis is a stalwart in Christian contemporary music.

Since 1987, the Dove Award winner has released 28 records, released hits like People Get Ready, Jesus is Coming, and is credited with inspiring modern superstars, Tori Kelly, and Katie Perry.

Her latest accolade includes co-writing the Grammy-nominated hit,

Even If, for the band Mercy Me. Say through the fire with your new movie, I can only imagine too, but amidst the movie's

success, Lewis says it's missing something crucial,

her story. The movie shows Lewis's co-writer Tim Timmins, writing the song with Mercy Me lead

singer Bart Millard. Based on the hymn, to Timmins in 2014.

She says he gave it to Millard without proper consent, cutting Lewis's ownership down to 10%.

She later found out her song inspired a sequel to the

blockbuster movie, I Can Only Imagine. But aside from a songwriter credit and mentions from

Timmons in the press, Lewis was cut out of the narrative. Now, in an interview with Roy's report

journalist Jessica Morris, she is telling her side of the story.
