You know what, we just finished recording today's newscast.

And then as so often happens, we look down at our phones and news was breaking with the most senior police officer in the UK,

Crested Dick, who leads the Metropolitan Police.

She's leaving.

Even though she was on the radio, on BBC Radio London,

just a matter of hours before, saying this.

I have absolutely no intention of going. And I believe that I am, and have been, actually,

for the last five years, leading a real transformation in the Met.

And yet, a matter of hours later, she's walked the plank.

Dan Johnson's our correspondent having a look at all of this.

Hi, Dan. What's happening here then?

Hello, good question. What has gone on this afternoon?

We're not quite sure, but there is a statement that we've had from the Mayor of London,

Sadiq Khan,

who we know was already near the end of his tether with the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.

He'd been signalling in the last week, especially that he was just about out of confidence

in the way that she was leading that force. And his statement this evening says,

last week I made it clear that the scale of change, I believe, is urgently required to rebuild

the trust and confidence of Londonans in the Met and to root out the racism, sexism,

homophobia, bullying, discrimination and misogyny that still exists.

I am not satisfied with the commissioner's response.
