Imagine a creature that looks like a beautiful horse, often as white as snow.

But then you see it, a single spiraling horn on its forehead.

This horn might glow with a magical light.

It moves gracefully, running through forests filled with ancient trees

or galloping across wide open meadows under a bright blue sky.

I bet you know what this is. A unicorn!

These amazing beings are usually seen as pure, kind and magical.

They appear in stories from many places, representing strength, healing, and sometimes good luck.

Legends often say they are elusive, meaning they're hard to find and only show themselves to special people.

So where did the ideas of unicorns come from?

It's a very old one.

People in ancient times wrote about creatures that looked like unicorns.

The famous Greek writer Pliny the elder mentioned them in his books about nature.

But these early descriptions weren't always very accurate,

sometimes mixing up unicorns with other animals.
