Summary

A few weeks ago a shared a conversation on Clubhouse with photographers Ben Von Wong and Tim Tadder and I received a lot of positive feedback. If you're not familiar with Clubhouse, it's new social audio platform. It's currently still in beta, so access is still limited. So grateful to be able to record a couple of these and share them out so you can listen in.

Today I'm back with hosts Walid Azami (@walid.azami) and Mathieu Young (@mathieuyoung) in a Clubhouse conversation talking about creativity and my book Creative Calling. Some things we get into:

We are the only species that trains the instincts out of our children. Inherently, we are creative machines, and tapping into that is key to not only success, but also more importantly, fulfillment
Pulling the thread on the thing you know about yourself, whether it's inconvenient or not, you pursue it because you're following your intuition.
Knowing when the burn the boats, but protecting against the downside
Writing has been reborn in my life- radically important for galvanizing my thoughts, if you can't write it down in a way that makes sense to you, it's going to be hard to put that out in the world.
Short term urgency, long term patience
Seasons of life- we can't perform at the peak forever, the folks at the top of their craft take time to recover, heal, train and improve
Once you find your thing, how do you execute? The creative challenges and tug-o-wars are universal- we all go through it. You're not alone.

And to start this episode off, I'm going to look backwards just a few weeks where I had a really fun time on that new app called Clubhouse, which you're probably familiar with. If you're not, it's a new audio, social audio platform. Um,
0:22.5	still in beta, so it's a little bit difficult to get access to. Um, but if you're aware of it,
0:27.3	it's a place where you can hang out and have audio conversations or be a fly on a wall
0:31.0	and listen to people who have knowledge about things, talk about those things. And whether that's MC Hammer, talking
0:39.0	about MC Hammer pants or venture capitalists like Ben Horowitz talking about how to get someone
0:44.9	to support your vision between those two things and everything in the middle. That's an amazing
0:51.0	app. And I had a good time on that app a few days ago, sorry, a few weeks ago with a couple of great hosts, Waleed and Matthew. And I wanted to share that with you because Clubhouse is limited. I know not everyone who wanted to join was able to. We got some feedback that they were bummed. And also the people who did tune in
1:13.0	got a lot of very positive feedback on the show. So I thought we'd share it here in its very
1:19.4	raw form. A couple things we cover in the show in case you're interested, that a reminder,
1:25.6	we are the only species on the planet that trains the instincts out of our
1:31.8	children. We train creativity out of our children. And you know that we are all creative by nature,
1:38.2	but sometimes we forget that we are creating machines. We talk about pulling on the thread, the thing that you
1:45.6	know about yourself, whether it's inconvenient or not, and how to manifest that into a positive
1:50.2	outcome in your life. We talk about when to burn the boats and go all in. And it's not always what
1:56.9	you think, right? We hear stories about entrepreneurs, we hear stories about entrepreneurs. You gotta go
2:01.7	on in your vision and they'll get a second mortgage on the house and they go out of business.
2:05.6	And knowing when to go all in and when to turn over one card at a time or when to just keep
2:12.2	moving forward, that is a big dilemma. Those three topics, a number of others like short-term
2:16.7	urgency, long-term patients, different seasons of life. You can't, a number of others, like short-term urgency, long-term
2:17.6	patience, different seasons of life. You can't always be, you know, going 24-7, just like in life
2:25.1	in the world, there are seasons. In winter, you move slower. You are more quiet. It's
