Well, good evening.

It is hard to believe we've already come to chapter number six. I haven't been here for all of these but I've had the

privilege of being here for many of them and this is as was said earlier today, the bad news chapter.

I mean, it really is the bad news chapter.

But there's no good news without the bad news. Amen.

And so we will work our way through this chapter.

It's titled of the fall of man of sin and of the punishment thereof.

Of the fall of man of sin and of the punishment thereof.

And as we begin, as always, it's important to say a word or two about

Confessionalism in general. Many of us, most of us, did not grow up in confessional environments.

And in fact, most of us grew up in very anti-confessional environments.

Amen.

Most of us grew up in environments where people looked at confessions with suspicion.

The confessions are the words of men, right?

And so you'll hear things that there are major objections,

main objections to confessionalism

are these.

Number one, people will argue that we don't need confessions because we have the Bible.

And on its face, that sounds reasonable, right? We don't need confessions. We have the Bible. In fact we believe

in sola scripture. We believe that the Bible is our final and ultimate authority on all matters of faith and practice.

You know what's interesting about that? That's a confessional statement.
