“You don’t have to know everything, but you have to care,” says Jersey Banks, Co-Founder of Urban Cowboy, a full-service design studio specializing in commercial, residential, and immersive hospitality environments. Within six months of founding Urban Cowboy, with partner and designer Lyon Porter, in May of 2014, it exploded internationally and soon became a staple of Brooklyn culture. There are now locations in many of the country’s most exciting hotspots, including Nashville, where friends and members of the creator industry gather to create unforgettable memories and feel inspired by experiential design.
Key takeaways from today’s conversation include:
Quotes:
• “Make sure you are operating in a space that you care about. You have to care. You don't have to know everything about it, but you have to care.” (42:36-42:48 | Jersey)
• “Don't define success for yourself too early. Let it shape itself. When you're starting something, you don't know what it is going to be. It's a work in progress. It's going to build outward in multiple directions that you can't decide.” (43:07-43:23 | Jersey)
• “In the boutique space, you can go up to 100 rooms or 150 rooms. And even if we open a property to that scale, it's still so important to us that people feel that level of intimacy and every location has a different feel. You have to get creative on how you give that experience.” (26:22-26:40 | Jersey)
