Summary
Pack Nation, Ryan is fired up — and this one turned into something special. What started as a quick take on Lucas Van Ness's fifth year option turned into a full-on intervention for Packer fans who've convinced themselves that nobody on this roster is worth paying. Buckle up.
- The Rasini Rabbit Hole: Ryan goes deep on the conspiracy theory nobody is saying out loud — could The Athletic's investigation into inappropriate reporter-source relationships be connected to a sudden wave of high-profile NFL executives "stepping away to pursue other passions"? He wants credit if it turns out to be true.
- Lucas Van Ness Is a No-Brainer: The fifth year option is a bargain. Van Ness is slotting in as roughly the 40th-highest-paid pass rusher in the league. Letting him walk means handing the edge rotation to Baron Sorrell and a prayer. Ryan breaks down exactly why this isn't a debate.
- Salary Cap School Is In Session: Ryan pulls out his salary cap calculator at packergames.com and walks through why fans are consistently overestimating what these contracts actually cost. Aaron Rodgers' $33M deal in 2018 would be worth $61M today — and we panicked then too.
- Stop Playing the "He's Not Worth It" Game: From Jaden Reed to Christian Watson to Wyatt to Tucker Craft — Ryan argues that Packer fans systematically undervalue their own players and then have no plan for what to do with the savings. Gutey himself said "absolutely" when asked if they can still afford Watson.

| 0:00.0 | Ladies and gentlemen, welcome once again to the Packernet podcast. |
| 0:13.9 | I am your host and resident fanalyst as always, Ryan Schlipp. |
| 0:18.3 | Check us out online, packernet.com. |
| 1:30.5 | Find me on Twitter, pack underscore dat-a. So real quick, I just want to, once again, I did this already. I think on Packernet after dark last night or something, but I know a couple days ago, the podcast, the audio got all jacked up. Very upset about it. That was a fun episode. I enjoyed it. Maybe it's, Maybe it's for the best. I think my audio equipment is starting to censor me like, bro, this is taking a little far. But that was a fun one. And unfortunately, I can't really go back and fix it. And I'm sure as heck not going to go back and re-record the whole thing. But like I said, the next day's audio or the next day's podcast was kind of like part two of that. So you still get a little taste of what that was about. But again, I apologize. I'm aware of the issue. Usually I catch it. And I get very annoyed because it's like, oh, no, how long has this been going on? Oh, 40 minutes. Okay. So I'm starting all the way over. This time I didn't catch it, and I just uploaded it. I guess I didn't go back and check the audio, which I usually don't. I mean, it's just, you know, occasionally I'll go back because I got a, you know, what was I just saying? You know, I go off on a tangent over here, and I have to go back and be like, what the heck was I talking about? and then I'll hear the crazy staticy thing or whatever. Apparently that didn't happen. |
| 1:28.2 | So my bad. And I have to go back and be like, what the heck was I talking about? And then I'll hear the crazy, staticky thing or whatever. |
| 1:30.5 | Apparently, that didn't happen. |
| 1:32.5 | So my bad on that. |
| 1:35.9 | Okay, a couple things. |
| 1:38.7 | I want to talk about the fifth-year option for Van Ness. |
| 1:41.7 | However, real quick, and I don't want to spend a lot of time on this. |
| 1:44.0 | I think this is a stupid topic. |
| 1:51.6 | But one thing real quick on the, uh, the Racini thing, because I'm, I just, I just want to go down the rabbit hole of possible conspiracy stuff. So it's one of those things where I'm just going |
| 1:57.8 | to say it's a crazy conspiracy theory and it's stupid and it's nothing. However, if there's teeth to this, I want credit for getting it first. So one of the |
| 2:08.4 | things, and I don't want to go too far down this rabbit hole, but I just want to take you through |
| 2:11.3 | my thought process and kind of how I got here. There's a lot of talk about how, you know, |
| 2:16.0 | how shameful this is because the woman gets fired and the man gets to stay in his position. |
| 2:21.4 | And we always think in this stupid binary and it's lazy thinking. First of all, they're not the same people. |
| 2:29.1 | They're not in the same position. Not even, I mean, they're kind of in a similar position from the opposite perspective. |
| 2:35.4 | There's different moral issues. They're different legal ethical issues. There's all different |
| 2:41.4 | kinds of stuff, not to mention they're in different positions. One is a reporter, one is a head |
| 2:44.8 | coach. In other words, if you switched them and the head coach was a female and the reporter |
| 2:48.6 | was a male, you'd likely see the same situation where the reporter is the one without a job. |
