Life has been pretty nuts for me these past few months.

After some relatively relaxed months at the end of last year.

The new year hit like a bomb, which is a good thing.

I love feeling busy and productive.

But in the midst of all the deadlines, emails, phone calls, and real life stuff

like grocery shopping and walking the dog, it can be tempting to chisel away at writing time to try to accomplish other tasks. I like to say I guard my two hours

of daily writing time with a flamethrower and a machete, but sometimes the person I have to guard against most is myself.

Whenever I'm tempted to cut into my writing time in order to work on other projects, I remind myself that this, this writing time

is the reason I do all the other stuff in the first place.

And so, no matter how crazy the rest of my life gets, my writing time will always remain a sacred

few hours within the helter-skelter of the day.
