Summary

Pastor Erwin McManus delivers a challenging message on the importance of developing our craft.

In Ephesians 4, God commands us to be creators and not to settle for consuming or stealing from others. Because we are created by God, we're meant to create and add value to the world around us through the discipline of work.

As Christians, many of us have picked up the belief that if we have been called by God to do something, it should come naturally to us. On the contrary, Erwin reminds us that it is up to us to turn our talent into greatness through hard work.

If you've been waiting for a moment of magic to transform your talent into greatness, be encouraged that you don't have to wait for magic -- you can start to build the momentum you long for today.

This message is inspired by Artisan Soul, Erwin Raphael McManus' book that calls us to reclaim our creative essence as humans.

We're working through chapter by chapter, but the core narrative of everything we're

0:41.0

talking about is that so many times we must understand what it means to be human, that

0:46.7

we underestimate the beauty and wonder of what it means to be created in the image and

0:51.3

likeness of God.

0:52.3

And I hope you never forget this phrase for the rest of your life, that bees create

0:57.2

hives and ants create colonies, but humans create futures.

1:04.5

And that's an uncomfortable thing to say sometimes, especially if you actually are a person

1:08.5

of faith because you have probably been subtly, if not directly, taught that the future is

1:13.9

only God's, and that we humans have no relationship to the future and that it's mysterious

1:21.3

and unknowable and out of our control and only in God's control.

1:25.7

But the strange thing is that when you were a child, you were taught something quite

1:29.5

different in a very practical way, because your parents did everything they could to teach

1:34.7

you the difference between right and wrong, and they would tell you each of your vegetables,

1:39.9

but they would probably never encourage you to eat or drink kerosene.

1:43.4

See, because they understood that the choices you made would affect your future.
