We like to get right into it. And what we're going to get into today is, well, it's hard to actually

describe, but let's say it's cracking down on unarmed insurrectionist trespassing.

So that's kind of a snarky way to say we're going to talk about the case of a Republican

county official in New Mexico, who has now been banned for life from holding any public office

for his role in the January 6th Capitol riot, in which he was convicted of trespassing.

And see if that is perhaps a proportional, appropriate thing to do or not.

So to start off, the justice department has charged more than 870 people

in the Capitol riot investigation. I mean, it's the biggest criminal investigation

in justice department history. So I'm going to give you a few numbers from the justice department.

They released them almost a month ago. So they've probably been updated a little bit, but they're

basically you get the idea. 264 defendants have been charged with assaulting, resisting,

or impeding officers of those. 90 have been charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon

or causing serious bodily injury. Okay, 90 out of 870, roughly one in 10 has been charged with

using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury. About 55 have been charged

with destruction of government property. About 50 have been charged with conspiracy. And more than

a dozen, basically members of two groups, the proud boys and the oath keepers, have been charged

...
