| 0:00.0 | Welcome to Thoughts in the Market. I'm Andrew Sheets, chief cross-asset strategist for |
| 0:06.1 | Morgan Stanley. And I'm Matthew Harrison, equity research analyst covering biotechnology. |
| 0:11.0 | And today on the podcast, we'll be talking about new variants of COVID-19, the booster |
| 0:15.2 | market, and the road ahead for vaccinations. It's Thursday, February 11th at 3 p.m. in |
| 0:20.5 | London. And 10 a.m. here in New York. |
| 0:23.8 | So Matthew, I'm really glad we have a chance to speak today because I feel that when |
| 0:26.7 | you open up the newspaper, you read the news, there are these two very different narratives |
| 0:31.4 | about what's going on with COVID-19 at the moment. On the one hand, there's a very |

| 1:00.5 | side. And let me give you a couple points that probably put me there. So the first one |
| 1:03.9 | is if I look at the efficiency of vaccine distribution in the US, we've moved from a situation |
| 1:10.0 | where a month ago, only about 20% of shots that were distributed were getting into arms. |
| 1:16.2 | And now we're north of 70%. So the efficiency of the operation is improving. The second |
| 1:21.9 | thing is the supply of vaccines in the US has pretty much been on target with what the |
| 1:28.8 | manufacturers were estimating. So we haven't had supply issues. Clearly demand is outstripping |
| 1:33.8 | supply and that remains to be something that we can fix. But the efficiency of the operation |
| 1:39.1 | is improving. And then the second item is variants are potentially concerning. The data |
| 1:44.8 | that we have so far on vaccine efficacy against variants is such that while it may be slightly |
