Whenever there is a dispute, the journalist casts himself or herself in the role of referee at some kind of sports contest and says, well, of course, both sides are to blame.

That sounds balanced, but applied to the government shutdown, it's just not true.

The state of California may have passed a law to ban so-called revenge porn, but lawmakers haven't had much success

reigning in the internet. The technology constantly outstrips the pace of legislation. Whatever

problem the legislators are worrying about it, it's probably a problem from a few years ago.

Also, once we depended on laugh tracks to tell us how to feel, now we have Twitter, the newest technology, to address a very old need.

There's a part of the human brain, the limbic system that's basically wired to look for meaning in the meaning that other people find.

Well, as of Friday, no end in sight.

An impasse, gridlock. So, with no movement in negotiations to end the

government shutdown, much of the press was focused on the unfortunate reality of extremely

limited government. For folks coming to New York to see the iconic statue of liberty, this may be

their last chance, and who knows how long.
