0:10.3	Chapter 18. And this week we're going to be in Matthew 18 again and then be in First
0:15.4	Corinthians chapter 5 some. These are the two really primary texts on church discipline.
0:22.5	And I want us to look. Here's where we're going. We're spending three weeks here, and this is the second of three. So we're in the
0:26.4	middle. The goal today is to spend time in Matthew 18 in 1st Corinthians chapter 5 and get biblical
0:33.1	foundations. Let's see what scripture says. What's going to happen today, though, is these biblical
0:38.3	foundations are going to probably promote, provoke a lot of different questions around this room.
0:42.6	Well, how does that look in the context of church today? How does that look in the context of this church?
0:47.1	How does this look at Brook Hills? We're going to dive into some of that next week. We'll see some
0:51.4	practical things, but there's probably going to be a lot of questions left over. But the goal is let's see what scripture teaches, understand what scripture teaches,
0:59.7	and then look at how to implement it. I included in your notes there. I wanted to just kind of
1:04.1	review where we've gone real quickly, especially if you weren't here last week. We talked about
1:09.4	why we don't talk about church discipline
1:11.7	and why many churches have nothing to do with it, ignore it almost. Why not church discipline?
1:16.1	And many say, well, we're not going to do that because church discipline is legalistic.
1:19.8	And obviously it can become legalistic. If we start imposing non-biblical or extra-biblical
1:26.6	regulations or rules on one another, or if we confront one another
1:29.9	in a way that is not gentle and Christ-like and loving with humility, obviously church discipline can become
1:36.2	legalistic. But scripturally, church discipline is not legalistic, it is loving. And we know,
1:42.5	we know we're going against the grain here we live in a culture where
1:45.1	it's not even popular to discipline children and we don't even see the love and that and sort of
