1:24.1 | In July of 2018, a 26 year old Washington woman attempted to flee her adoptive mother's house, but was carried back inside by her adoptive brother. |
1:52.1 | She hasn't been seen by friends or neighbor since, and her family claims that she ran away. |
2:00.1 | Strangely, it would be nearly a year and a half until she was reported missing. |
2:06.1 | And as police dove into the lives of her adopted family, suspicions heavily grew against them. |
2:22.1 | This is the story of Courtney Holden. |
2:25.1 | Courtney, Carina Holden was born on February 28, 1992. |
2:51.1 | And a very little information has been made public about her childhood and her upbringing, including what tribe she belonged to as she was Native American. |
3:00.1 | But a big part of this story is the fact that she was adopted. |
3:03.1 | So we know that she entered the foster care system as a young girl in Spokane, Washington. |
3:09.1 | Spokane County itself happens to have the highest rate of domestic violence in the state. |
3:15.1 | And Washington sadly has one of the highest rates of missing indigenous women with over 100 reported every year. |

3:25.1 | So when indigenous children are removed from their homes, foster placement families who are also Native American are given priority. |
