I'm Alistalith head and for this week's assignment here on the BBC World Service

I've come to the country where women have more children than anywhere else in the world,

an average of 7.6.

And I've traveled to one region where the figure is even higher than that. This is the village of Angl Gao, which is in the Zander region of Southern Niger.

It's quite close to the border with Nigeria.

It's brilliantly friendly, but I suppose you expect that

in a town where there were so many children.

I started by enlisting one of the elders for a tour of the village,

helped by Yakuba Alou, a local English teacher who's translating for me.

My name is Al-Hajumusa.

This is a big village and it has Islamic schools and also it has the modern schools that is

the school that inherited from colonization.

How big is the village?

We have a great-my-guidanti

We have around a total number of 200 heads of families and kids we have more than 1,000.

Why so many children?

The reason why we have this number of children is because before people they don't really think about

planning their births but now things are changing. In terms of how the village looks, it's very sandy and dust of the buildings,

and sort of this cracked thick mud.

And just outside this little road, you can see the fields of millet heading off into the distance

It's currently the wet season. So the millet's about knee high it looks like it's going pretty well here
