If you have a Bible and hope you do, the beauty of the gospel, the God has saved us.

He's freed us from the power and the penalty of sin.

He's put us in Christ who's now our life.

So we've got together to surrender our lives and say our lives are yours and we're your

servants. It's not radical version of Christianity. This is biblical Christianity. It's what it means to be a follower of Christ.

We don't call the shots. He calls the shots.

Counterculture.

Many of you might recall that David has written a book by the same name, which deals

with how applying the gospel to critical issues of our day

is very difficult particularly in a culture that is increasingly opposed to the truths of God's

word we don't have the option of ignoring issues like abortion,

homosexuality, poverty, racism, and host of others. As followers of Christ, we must engage

our culture with the Gospel and we must do it with conviction, compassion, and

courage.

Today David helps us first orient ourselves around what the gospel actually demands of Christ's followers.

Many Christians and churches in our day have ignored or watered down the radical demands of

following Jesus, choosing to follow a Christianized version of the American dream rather than the Jesus of the Bible.

However, the one who saves us and freely gives us eternal life demands that we die to self in order to follow him.
