Welcome to the beat. I'm Ari Melber and this is it. It is happening this week.

So what is happening this week? Well, we're days away from the first presidential

debate of this 2024 campaign, the earliest ever as you may have heard, and that's a

big deal. We are also days away from the Supreme Court rulings that could resolve

a lot of big issues in the United States

including whether or not there'll be a federal coup trial for Donald Trump this year,

later, or ever.

I can tell you the Court's now added a couple more days, so Wednesday, Thursday,

debate day and Friday our decision day.

So we have a lot coming up tonight on all of that.

And we are living through one of those big weeks.

And if you're thinking, you know, I would have liked

a little more time off in the summer or yes, I keep eye on the news but do we have to be doing everything well

Part of the answer I mentioned this in our coverage is the Biden campaign thinks that starting this campaign earlier will help them

We'll wake people up to the choice, which they say is stark,

and mobilize people for the debate. Remember, this is a campaign that could turn as much

on who pays attention. Turns out as it turns on the so-called undecided voters because while debates matter a lot,

this year it may matter for mobilization, not just people making up their minds.

A lot of people have met these two candidates and know what they think about them.

So, as we gear up for this debate of the summer, kick-starting the general election,

it could matter and reach tens of millions of people just like last time.
