How is the Ukraine war going for the people of Russia?

Well, one clue is that Vladimir Putin has ordered the conscription of 135,000 men into the Russian military this autumn.

That comes after the draft of 160,000 or so conscripts

earlier this year, although conscripts are generally not supposed to serve in the Ukraine front line.

Instead, there's what some call deathonomics, the idea that volunteer soldiers receive bonuses

and good pay, and if they die, their families receive a big payout.

Nevertheless, as the war grinds on, there are obvious questions about whether Russia may be running

out of volunteers and the possible political repercussions for Vladimir Putin, if large
