• New Jersey’s First Lady Tammy Murphy formally announced her intention to run for U.S. Senate—challenging Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) for his seat. Menendez has been charged with acting as a foreign agent for Egypt and with accepting bribes in exchange for influence. Is she using her symbolic office of First Lady to elevate herself to the U.S. Senate? During a press conference this week, Tammy Murphy promoted new legislation to expand doula care access in New Jersey.
• Alastair Gale of The Wall Street Journal warns that new Chinese submarines, equipped with cutting-edge technology, can now rival U.S. submarine dominance. He writes: “Much of China’s current submarine technology comes from reverse-engineering diesel-electric submarines bought from Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Closer military ties between Moscow and Beijing in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have spurred concerns that Russia may be willing to share some of its advanced submarine technology with China, but there have been no clear indications of such transfers…Simulations of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan conducted by American military analysts often assume U.S. submarines would try to sink ships in the attacking Chinese fleet. • David Zimmerman of National Review writes: “Elon Musk announced X will file a ‘thermonuclear lawsuit’ on Monday against Media Matters for America after one of its reports prompted multiple corporations to pull their advertising from the billionaire’s rebranded social-media platform.
