This morning I woke to the sad news that John Prine had died from complications from coronavirus.

John Prine was one of the greatest poets and songwriters and characters of our generation.

And I sat down for just a moment and I was just overcome with sadness.

I don't know John Prine.

I just listened to his music and it wasn't like he was a friend.

But I was just in the moment overwhelmed.

And I realized that it wasn't just John Prine.

It was all the things that have been lost.

John Prime might be one of the greatest songwriters, but right now someone is mooring the greatest

grandparent they ever had, the greatest parent, the greatest friend, all of whom are dead now

because they succumb to coronavirus. I was just thinking about my son who graduates from college in a few weeks and won't have

the opportunity to graduate. The pictures and memories of that will never have. And there are

families across the world who are having the exact same experience where their children will

not be able to walk across the stage. And it's not just graduation. It's,

it's weddings and baptisms and family events. It's all of the things that we do together.

All of those memories that will never have, the beginning of little league season, for example,

right here in the spring, those things that we treasure so much are just lost. They're gone. And right there in that

moment, I was just overwhelmed with mourning. I'm an adult. I shouldn't have felt that way,

but I did. And I imagine that there are a lot of people who are in exactly the same boat.
