Dr. Rick Bright was the director of the biomedical advanced research and development authority

basically a top vaccine official for the Department of Health and Human Services, the HHS within the US government,

until last month.

He's not there now, but today he testified in front of Congress that if this country does not step up its response to this pandemic,

Americans will suffer what he called unprecedented illness and fatalities.

The case numbers may be starting to flatten in some parts of the US, but at least 85,000 deaths have already been reported in this country,

and this number is only going to get bigger.

Researchers are moving at unprecedented speed, but they're still struggling to understand this pandemic.

What exactly does this COVID-19 virus do to our bodies?
