Stearic acid is an 18 carbon saturated fat that has intriguing effects on the human body. It's been shown to positively affect mitochondrial activity, and diets that are low in cause mitochondria to change activity and phenotype in negative ways. Mouse models of this fatty acid also suggest some profoundly powerful effects on glucose tolerance and visceral fat when compared to oleic acid (18C monounsaturated fat), and linoleic acid (18C polyunsaturated fat). I break it all down in this video and share my RBC fatty acid levels as well as a compelling n=1 case study of Emmy's weight loss with dietary shifts away toward more stearic acid and less linoleic acid.

Controversial thoughts: How to get Omega-3 without Rancid Fish Oil and why Linoleic acid makes you Fat.
With levels of linoleic acid consistent with our evolutionary past, omega-3s aren't an issue if you are eating nose to tail! I also talk about CLA, how linoleic acid makes you fat. Check us out at www.heartandsoil.co and @heartandsoilsupplements on instagram to get nose to tail nutrition!

0:00.0 | What is up you guys? This video is going to be less controversial and more informative, |
0:05.5 | but it will probably be controversial for some, I suppose. I've been talking a lot about |
0:09.6 | linoleic acid and a little bit about steeric acid. And I want to do a whole video about |
0:15.5 | steeric acid show some of the literature that I've found on this, some literature I've |
0:19.8 | seen on this and talk about why I think this saturated fat is interesting. And as you |
0:26.0 | guys know, we've got fire starter coming out at Harden's soil, which I will tell you |
0:29.8 | about in a bit, but it is a high steeric acid. This is why we made it. It's super exciting |
0:33.8 | stuff. So I want to start with a story from Brad Marshall. So Brad Marshall is the guy |
0:40.4 | behind the croissant diet. He has a bug, blog, fire in a bottle. And I had him on my podcast. |
0:46.9 | That podcast is going to be out in two weeks. So a week from tomorrow, tomorrow's podcast |
0:53.3 | is with Ben Beakman. We talked all about carbohydrates and polyantetrative fats and what |
0:58.4 | really causes metabolic dysfunction. We had an awesome conversation. We agree on almost |
1:02.6 | everything. We had a little bit of friendly debate. I love Ben. It was a really good podcast. |
1:07.2 | So the week after this will be Brad Marshall. And we went deep into these theories around |
1:13.3 | mitochondrial reactive oxygen species, how polyantetrative fats differ from saturated |
1:19.9 | fats. So I want to start with this post from blog, from Brad's blog, fire in a bottle. |
1:26.0 | And as you can see here, this is Emmy's story. And this is actually really pretty cool because |
1:31.2 | it's just an end of one, but it's a very interesting story of a woman, Emmy, who allowed |
1:36.5 | Brad to publish this and was not able to lose weight on a carnivore diet. She was, she |
1:44.1 | said she was strict carnivore at the beginning of two years. She quits cheese and eggs. The |
