0:11.6	We begin this morning with breaking news out of the Middle East.
0:16.2	Overnight, Israel launched a large series of airstrikes against Hezbollah using about 100 fighter jets,
0:22.3	striking more than 40 targets in southern Lebanon, according to the IDF.
0:26.9	Israel says the strikes were preemptive and targeted Hezbollah rockets and firing canisters
0:33.3	that were supposedly aimed towards Israel and preparing to fire.
0:38.3	According to local officials, at least three people were killed by the strikes in Lebanon.
0:42.8	Shortly thereafter, Hezbollah fired more than 320 rockets and drones toward Israel in what
0:49.7	appears to be the largest Hezbollah strike on Israel since October the 7th.
0:54.8	According to Hezbollah officials, it claimed to hit 11 military targets.
0:59.3	The militant group says that was in response to Israel's killing of Hezbollah's leader in
1:04.2	Beirut in July and rejected Israel's claim that it was preparing to fire first.
1:09.6	Now, soon after that, Hezbollah announced that
1:12.6	its operations were a success and were complete. Israel too implied that it was done. Tensions have
1:19.7	been slowly escalating between Israel and Hezbollah for months, with each side trading deadly
1:24.1	strikes, raising fears of a full-fledged regional war. At the same time, ongoing
1:29.2	ceasefire hostage talks are continuing in Cairo regarding the war in Gaza. The CIA director,
1:35.8	Bill Burns, and other American officials are participating in that. An Israeli official tells NBC
1:41.0	news that Israel is still sending a delegation to Cairo, despite today's
1:45.5	fighting with Hezbollah. Hamas is not directly taking part in the talks. They are represented
1:51.3	by Egypt and Qatar there, but a senior Hamas official tells NBC News that a delegation will be in
