And today we're going to talk about Contra the Hardcore.

Contra the Hardcore, also known as Contra Hardcore, no definite article for North Americans,

and also simply known as Probotecta in EU and Australasia territories, PAL regions, more of which later.

But as you probably know by now, if you've been following this podcast, we've done a number of shows on the Contra series, and they are largely 2D scrolling run and gun games with an emphasis on

explosions, fast-paced action, set pieces and so on and so forth.

This is the only Sega console exclusive game in the Contra series unless I'm very much

mistaken. I don very much mistaken.

I don't think that.

No challenge.

Yeah.

The only other Contra game on a Sega system being Contra Legacy of War on the Saturn, which was also on the PlayStation, so not an exclusive.

There was no Contra game on the Dreamcast. There was no Contra game on the mast system. So I think

this is it. In China, the game was released on mobile phones as Contra 5 Iron Blood Corps,

officially placing it as the fifth main title in the series,

according to the wiki. Of course, Contra 4 came along in the mid-2000s on the DS, courtesy of Way Forward,

and hopefully we may get to cover that at some point, although it's a difficult game to track down at this point. It's one of the many cool DS games that is expensive to buy a legit copy of.

And obviously, you need the hardware to play it and so on.

But there are ways and means.
