Today the government released the producer price numbers for the month of October.

On Wednesday, we get the same numbers for consumer prices.

And of course, it's the consumer price index that's going to get a lot more headlines.

There's going to be a lot more discussion because the public is more concerned about the

prices they pay, not the prices that businesses pay.

But of course, ultimately businesses have to recover the cost of production from the consumer.

In fact, they have to recover more than the cost of production because businesses need to

generate a profit so they have to sell their goods and services for more than it costs to provide them.

So consumers should be concerned about the prices that producers pay, but they generally don't

start to worry until those higher costs get passed on to them in the form of higher prices.

Now, I initially wanted to hold off on this podcast and kind of get the CPI numbers so I can

talk about both of them. But unfortunately, I'm so tied up on Wednesday from morning to night.

I just will not have time to do a podcast at all.
