Coming from Backpacking, hiking, mountaineering, every once in a while you see a bear.

Of course you see birds on every trip, and maybe you see a deer on most every trip.

I kind of expected sailing to be the same way, but I get to see whales all the time.

I get to see seals on a constant basis and see lions if you know where to go sail around here.

I've never going to sail with dolphins because we don't have dolphins and Puget Sound and I'm really

excited to sail with dolphins.

This is Michaela Bauer, and when she first reached out to me

about her big plan to circumnavigate the world

and her San Juan sailboat named Swirl, I was all ears.

For one, I know next to nothing about sailing, and we've only touched on it once or twice here on she explorers.

And for another, I'm so intrigued by what motivates a big audacious goal like sailing around the world.

And I'm even more intrigued by what keeps someone going once they're out there.
