It was Conservative Party conference this week, so I sat down with the Cabinet Minister

Sajid Javid to discuss housing and of course the problems facing his party.

I also talked to former Deputy Prime Minister and Tory Grandee, Lord Heseltine,

and discussed the party's future with three key backbench MPs.

Last Sunday, I was in Brighton at the Labour Party conference surrounded by happy,

clappy party members buoyed by a better than expected performance in the general election.

But this week, things were rather different as I headed north to Manchester and the Conservatives'

annual gathering. They, of course, were expected to win the election but didn't.

Theresa May's big gamble backfiredired and she was left without a majority.

Since then, her party has been beset by bitter infighting.

And this weekend, Boris Johnson gave an interview restating his Brexit red lines the latest salvo in a seemingly never-ending political drama.

It is generally accepted that one of the main reasons

why voters deserted the Tories and flocked to Jeremy Corbyn's labour is housing.

With price and rent rising and wages simply not keeping up,

frustration with the government is wearing thin.
