Summary

Today on the Gist, contextualizing Donald Trump's "wrong and crazy" proposal to nationalize elections, arguing that while the rhetoric is alarming, the Constitution makes it impossible to execute. Then Conor Heffernan, author of When Fitness Went Global, joins the show to discuss the history of "physical culture," explaining why he lifts heavy stones in graveyards and how the first fitness influencer, Eugen Sandow, shifted the world from functional strength to pure aesthetics—while selling a few bogus dumbbells along the way.  And in the Spiel, Mike analyzes the recent FBI raid in Georgia, arguing that Trump's attempt to weaponize the DOJ to prove a stolen election will likely backfire by highlighting his biggest political liability.  Produced by Corey Wara Video and Social Media by Geoff Craig Do you have questions or comments, or just want to say hello? And you probably heard that Donald Trump floated an idea about nationalizing elections.

0:15.5

In other words, keeping the ability of the states to certify elections, taking that away from them. It's a crazy idea.

0:22.5

It's a wrong idea. It's bad to propose it. Also, I'll give you a silver lining. It's never

0:27.1

going to happen. It's quite insane. Now, I'm not saying that we should just ignore this idea

0:32.0

because it is so wrong and crazy and also motivated by Donald Trump's wrong and crazy idea

0:37.3

that the 2020 election was stolen.

0:39.4

But if I give you the context of how this was proposed, maybe you'd think about the idea

0:44.1

differently. Maybe you wouldn't. Maybe you'd just say it's so wrong and crazy. We need to pay

0:47.7

attention to it and be alarmed about it. But it was during the Dan Bongino comeback show,

0:53.3

final 19 minutes, an interview with Donald Trump.

0:56.3

And Dan Bongino asked a question.

0:58.4

Well, it wasn't really a question.

0:59.4

It was a little bit of a brag about how great he did with the FBI about cracking down

1:04.6

on an aspect of immigration.

1:05.9

I'm going to play the not question, end of his statement that led into Donald Trump beginning his answer,

1:14.6

that included, we need to take away elections from about 15 states. Here we go. And this was a

revolutionary approach, and the results speak for themselves, the lowest crime rates in modern U.S.

1:25.8

history. Well, we want one thing in Minnesota.

1:29.8

We can get out of there really fast.
