Unconsciously, she ran her fingers along the wedding ring on her finger.

You said you have valuable information, Eleanor Lucas said.

Jade's eyes snapped back to the fireblue president.

I do, she said, trying to regain her focus.

"'I want my—' she stopped.

As much as she wanted to, she couldn't bring herself to call Michelle her girlfriend.

It was as if the word had grown too heavy and wouldn't pass her lips.

Jade felt a sense of panic swell inside her chest.

"'Help me understand,' Luca said, leaning forward.

Her gray eyes were kind and patient.

Jade shifted in her seat.

"'Understand what?
