This is CBS I and the World spending time with my colleague, Veronique DiRigee, of the Mercatus Center at

George Mason University, looking at the big, beautiful bill. It doesn't look so beautiful

where you can get into the details, because here it comes. Temporary deductions for tip income,

overtime pay, car loan interest, a higher standard

deduction for seniors.

These are all giveaways.

Who demanded this for their vote?

These seem like nickel and diming.

The president, the president, if you remember in the Texan on tip, were were there were promises that he made that he made

during during the campaign. No tax on overtime. Also a big tax credit for seniors, which that is

actually, I find particularly offensive. And because, you know, we have a system, you and I have talked about this, social security,

which is extremely, it's extremely unfair because it basically it's a system that redistributes wealth

from the relatively poor and young to the relatively old and wealthy.

And it doesn't mean that everyone who is

wealthy, but they're overrepresented in the top income quintile. And this bill not only doesn't

touch social security. Now, you couldn't do that through reconciliation, but it does give seniors

and other tax credits. And so that doesn't make things better. That makes things worse.

Now the really part that I understand is the worst. That's the spending side.

Veronique, there is a very simple formula that you've given me to understand over the years.

All Congress can do to make a success of the

future of the United States is to stop spending. That's it. And they understand this. I watch

them talk about their work. They see that. It's not news to them, and yet they spend more.
