The daughter of a Presbyterian minister and a schoolteacher, Condoleesa Rice grew up in

Birmingham, Alabama. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Denver, a master's

degree from Notre Dame, and a doctorate once again from the University of Denver.

Dr. Rice has served in many positions, including Provost of Stanford University, U.S. Secretary

of State, and now, Director of the Hoover Institution, the think tank here at Stanford.
