Novo Nordisk maintains its lead in the booming weight loss drug market,

but signals concerns over pharmacy-made versions of its bestsellers.

The diabetes drug giant Novo Nordisk is reassuring investors with big numbers for its popular weight loss drug Weigovie,

up almost 50% from the previous quarter.

This keeps it in the top slot in the obesity drug market despite competition from Eli Lilly.

Shares jumped 7% on the news.

However, the Danish pharma firm has raised alarms over unofficial copies of its drugs,

which have been linked to 100 hospitalisations and 10 deaths.

US regulations allow some pharmacies to copy brand name medicines

that are in short supply by combining, mixing or altering drug ingredients.

Novo says the FDA should ban compounding Weigobi and Ozambic.

The company also says it's working hard to increase manufacturing of Weigobi to moot demand.

It's building a new facility in Denmark. But that's not been straightforward for the local town.
