By the way, the NFL's preseason, since shifting to a three-game preseason with the 17-game regular season,

you don't see as many games other than the NFL

network games nationally televised by the NFL's big television partners. This is the first one

in the first two preseason weeks to be nationally televised. Again, excluding the NFL network games,

and it's the only one that ESPN will show. And then this coming weekend, in the final week of

the preseason, CBS, Amazon, and Fox all have games. But typically, CBS and Fox would have at least two nationally televised games. ESPN

might also have two nationally televised games, but it's not a great product, as we know.

It must not generate great ratings in the preseason relative to maybe what it used to.

I think most fans understand these games are true exhibitions, as they used to be called,

way back in the day, and they're not even very good exhibitions.

As we begin the recording of this podcast, there is breaking Nats news.

According to Ken Rosenthal and Britt Jiroli at the Athletic, the Nats are extending Davy Martinez and Mike Rizzo. I'll read from the first couple of paragraphs.

The Nats have signed manager Davy Martinez to a two-year contract extension, and general

manager Mike Rizzo also is close to a new deal, according to sources briefed on the discussions.

Martinez is also getting a club option for a third year, and Rizzo's deal is expected to be

similar in length. Both are completing this year years, on their current agreements.

Good for Davey Martinez, good for Mike Rizzo.

This, I think, feels like the right thing for the organization.

Obviously, the ownership situation is in flux.
