History of the Papacy podcast. I think I remember reading that after the Kittos war, Egypt was

basically depopulated of Jews. They, because they caused a lot of damage in Egypt, and I think they

fled back to Judea. So given that Alexandria had been the great nexus where Hellenism met

Judaism, and the Kidos War is around about 120, I think, something like that. That nexus

would have been destroyed. No, I don't know where I was going with it.

What's strange, though, is that at least by the sources,

I believe there was a fairly significant Jewish population by the 4th century

when, because Cyril of Alexandria wrote against them, and there was fights with them between the Jews and the Christians.

And I can't remember what they were called.

They were kind of proto monks who, at least in the common, if you look at some of the anti-Christian apologetics,

they said that these monks would go and raid into the Jewish sections and kill everybody,

but other scholars say that that didn't happen.

But I think that assumes then that there was,

maybe it had become repopulated later.
