Thank you for checking out this little teaser of the history of the papacy and church. Here's a little taste of what's coming up

soon on the History of the Papacy podcast. Now, I haven't seen great reasons why some cities were

included in the league and others were not. Remember, the canonical 10 cities were from one source, but other sources included up to 14.

For the most part, though, the list of 10 I'm basing these few episodes on is the most traditional list.

I can think of a lot of speculations why these particular cities were grouped together.

If you look at a map, they were very evenly spaced from each other for the most part.

They have certain cultural affinities with each other.

They may have been allied, especially during rockier times, such as the Maccabian Revolt or the

conflict between the Ptolemy's and the Salukids.

Maybe they viewed each other more similar in outlook, or they had similar demographics to

each other.

Most of these cities in this area had major group Greek influences, but ethnically and linguistically, they were very diverse.

All of these cities had been semi-independence since times immemorial, so that could be a reason why some cities leaked up, while others did not.
