It's such a fascinating division, and for him to have, for Dante to have come up with all of that,

is just it's mind-blowing.

One of the things that I find most fascinating is just the milieu it was created in.

He's really writing in the high Middle Ages. The black death hasn't quite happened yet.

It's about a half of a century in the future from there. But it's

really, Europe is at a peak point here where times are pretty good. It's nothing of the

dark ages you would think of. What was the context Dante was writing in? So although, like, I guess you could say like it was peaceful as far as like they're not

being any black death or anything like that, but there was a lot of infighting in the,

see, Florence is a city with a city state and it almost kind of had its own government.

And there was all sorts of political drama, and Dante actually ended up fighting in one of the wars when he was younger.

And there was different political, the different political parties that were fighting each other.

The main one that started out with was just the Guelps and the Ghibelians.

And the Givlings supported the rule by the Holy Roman Emperor.

And then the Guelps supported the rule of the papacy.
